General Information & Location
To view a listing of places, visit General Mission Work Map Information page.
Photographs that fall into the general mission work category depict aspects of daily life. Along the north west pacific coast, missionaries were often sent into remote areas by boat to spread their beliefs. Mission work often started by establishing and building mission houses, churches, hospitals and schools. They used these buildings to administer health care, perform daily sermons, teach english and euro-centric ways of living.
The materials date from approximately 1850 to 1975.
